{"id":925,"date":"2013-06-20T00:42:10","date_gmt":"2013-06-20T00:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/riverbankfinance.com\/blog\/?p=925"},"modified":"2013-06-20T00:42:10","modified_gmt":"2013-06-20T00:42:10","slug":"affect-on-mortgage-rates-from-bernanke-announcement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riverbankfinance.com\/blog\/affect-on-mortgage-rates-from-bernanke-announcement\/","title":{"rendered":"Affect on Mortgage Rates from Bernanke Announcement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/riverbankfinance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/federal-reserve.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-926\" alt=\"Federal Reserve\" src=\"https:\/\/riverbankfinance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/federal-reserve.jpg\" width=\"401\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/riverbankfinance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/federal-reserve.jpg 401w, https:\/\/riverbankfinance.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/federal-reserve-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" \/><\/a>Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke announced today that they may be easing the quantitative easing programs as early as this year.\u00a0 This program includes the purchases of mortgage backed securities (MBS) which are the packaged residential mortgages sold by banks and mortgage companies.\u00a0 The slowing of these purchases would take affect if the unemployment rates hits 6.5% and inflation reaches 2%.\u00a0 The phase out may be completed by 2014 which changes the mortgage lending landscape by pushing <strong>higher mortgage interest rates<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The quantitate easing programs were put in place to help stabilize the housing market and United States economy after the economic collapse a few year ago. Bernanke goes on to explain that the mortgage markets, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac, have become too reliant on the Fed\u2019s buying program. Other than this crutch, the markets seem to be functioning well.<\/p>\n<p>The effects on mortgage rates will be drastic which will lead to sharp increases in interest rates for both refinances and <a title=\"new home purchase\" href=\"http:\/\/riverbankfinance.com\/buying-a-home-or-foreclosure.html\">new purchase loans<\/a>. Without the support of the government and the Fed\u2019s buying program it is rumored that the 30 year mortgage may in itself be phased out.
