Unlike the big box stores, thrift stores do not typically advertise on tv and billboards so they may slip by your mind.  For back to school shopping forget about the expensive big box stores and buy last years clothes from the thrift shops. Places like good will may save you as much as 80% off your purchases. This really adds up and will save you tons!

Bring a lunch to school. Packing a lunch everyday for the school year can save  hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Growing up I ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches daily and I seem to have turned out just fine. Your kids can too! Forget the pizza and cookies from the ala carte menu and you will save big.

#3 BACK TO SCHOOL SAVINGS TIP: Use Accessories

Use accessories! Buy a nice scarf and belt cant jazz up nearly any outfit for your picky teenage daughter.  Let the accessories do the talking and skip the top brand names.  Go with plain shirts and skirts and switch up each outfit with reusable accessories that will last for years!  A few dollars worth of accessories from your local thrift shop will keep money in your pocket won’t get dated when top brands become unpopular.

Compare prices! Comparing prices using your smart phone is easier than you may think.  before you buy, scan the barcode of each item and do a search to see what other stores are selling it for. You may find out that this hot sale that was advertised isn’t as hot as you thought.  Using basic technology to compare prices can save you time and keep money in your pocket!
